Please call the rectory for assistance.
For almost twenty years members of our faith community and our friends volunteer their time to provide our neighbors with a hot-cooked meal. We gather every Saturday from November through April to feed a line of hungry people that often stretches half way down the block.
The meals we serve are prepared at the church kitchen or at home with love. The ingredients of each dish feature the special diversity represented in our serving line, as well as in the people we serve.
The Saturday Food Program at Most Holy Redeemer is open from the first Saturday in November through the last Saturday in April. Our volunteers come and go from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Over the course of those six months, many people stop by to drop off a home prepared dish, deliver staples for us to use, chop vegetables for our salad, cook a pot of chicken soup, help set up our serving line, pour coffee, hand out trays to the folks in line, wash dishes as the food is handed out and clean up when we have served the last meal.
People who cannot volunteer their time, donate the money to the Soup Kitchen which allows us to keep open. We fed over 4,000 people during last fall and winter, through the generosity of our supporters.
We have a great need for food prepared from your home that can be picked up or dropped off from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturdays. A meat, rice or pasta dish, vegetables, fruit or salad and dessert or your favorite dish to prepare are the staples of our hot meal. If cooking is not your gift, we have many small tasks that need tending by volunteers who have the gift of time and commitment.
As we work together, we share our laughter, our lives, with the understanding that the hungry faces that we serve could be any of us given a series of unforeseen circumstances. But most certainly we share the belief that the faces we see each Saturday reflect face of God in all of us.
