Directions Why do we constantly need directions in life? The ancients used the stars to navigate and plan their existence. It is no coincidence that the word “disaster” literally means “absence of stars”, implying dramatic consequences from lack of orientation. Who or what do we trust to give us directions? We use Google Maps and other devices. We talk to consultants, advisors, psicologists and coaches, but like the ancients, we need someone or something to point the way. What happens when we have no directions? At times we follow our instinct, like Gandalf suggests in The Lord of the Rings: “If in a doubt, Meriadoc, always follow your nose”. Other times we “just go, go, go” as Jack Kerouac said. And, once in a while, we just need to stroll, wander without directions, and allow ourselves to get lost.
