The Third Sunday of Advent (December 13th this year) is called "Gaudete Sunday." "Gaudete" is a Latin word for "rejoice." It is a special day of joyful expectation as we look forward to the coming of Our Lord, most especially at Christmas. This year we also honored Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Spanish Mass on that day. And on this Gaudete Sunday we had another great cause for rejoicing. At the end of the Spanish Mass we had a solemn procession with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament from the tabernacle on a side altar to the restored tabernacle on the high altar. As the Lord passed by, we experienced anew the "Eucharistic amazement" (Pope Saint John Paul II), the wonder and awe that come upon us in the face of the mystery of Our Lord's sacramental presence. We hope that this will be the beginning of a renewed devotion, on the part of many parishioners, to the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist as the very center of our lives. Here are some pictures from that celebration.
