“Stewardship” comes from the model that Jesus gives us in the gospels. In the parables about stewards he gives us an image for understanding that everything, and everyone, we have, we have received from our Father. We are responsible for the care and the growth of ourselves as persons, for others in our community and for Creation itself.
We practice our stewardship through our time, our talent and our treasure.
In the Scriptures the steward is the servant to whom the head of the household turns things over whenever he and the family travel away from home. The steward is to see to it that the owner’s work gets done. The steward is a very trusted person with a lot of responsibility.
There are many opportunities for stewardship in the parish. Each one of us is called to discover how we can contribute with his or her time, talent and treasure – to see to it that the Lord’s work gets done in this local faith community and in the larger community around us.
